What are Eyelash Extensions?

Not to be confused with the strip lashes or individual clusters lashes that are a single-event accessory, these semi-permanent, synthetic extensions are adhered one by one onto EACH natural lash (not the skin) by using a medical adhesive that last 2-4 weeks. This technique achieves a beautiful full luscious and long set of lashes that are natural and you won’t even know they are there. The Lash Designory uses silk and faux mink lash extensions.

Is there a difference between silk and faux mink lashes?

The only difference between a silk and faux mink lash is the way it is tapered. Which refers to when the lash starts to thin out towards the pointed tip. How the lash is tapered varies by manufacturer. There isn't a single difference in the material of a silk or mink lash. Unfortunately, there are many lash technicians that will charge different prices for the use of a silk and faux mink lash even though they are the exact same price (no matter the retailer) and made of the exact same material. This is a scam used to cheat clients out of money. We do not charge difference prices for the use of silk or faux mink lashes. We also do not use authenic mink fur as it does not hold its curl, the sizes aren't reliable, and we are against animal cruelty.

How long do Eyelash Extensions last?

Most people naturally shed 2-5 natural lashes per eye, per day. Here at The Lash Designory, we apply 95%-100% lash coverage. At an average rate of shedding 3 lashes per day, most clients return for a fill-in every 3 weeks. Proper at home care will is the make or break of long lasting extensions.

What is a Fill-In?

Naturally, lashes go through a cycle of growing and shedding. This cycle continues while wearling lash extensions. The average human naturally shed 2-3 natural lashes per day. Once we apply extensions, within 3 weeks most clients shed 63 natural lashes and a new lash will grow in their place. Therefore, Fill-Ins are required as we need to add extensions to the newly grown in natural lashes. Plus, remove and replace any extensions that have grown out too far from the water line. We suggest clients return for a Fill-In every 2-3 weeks. A new Full Set is required at week 4.

Who wears Eyelash Extensions?

You don’t have to be a celebrity or model to wear eyelash extensions. Your everyday ladies love eyelash extensions and can’t bear to be without them. Eyelash clients include nurses, beauty therapists, surgeons, dentists, lawyers, financial advisors, homemakers, detectives, dancers, business owners, nail technicians, forensic chemists, university students, hairdressers, police women and many more wonderful people.

How are Eyelash Extensions applied?

A single natural eyelash is isolated and a synthetic (mink or silk) lash is adhered to the base of your own natural eyelash approximately 1mm from the eyelid so neither the glue or the lash has contact with the skin.

Can I still wear mascara?

Although mascara isn't needed, you may use waterBASE not waterproof mascara. We recommend GrandeLash Masacra which we have for purchase in studio.

Are Lash Extensions waterproof?

Absolutely! High quality adhesives have improved greatly. You are now able to wet your lash extensions immediately after they are applied. No more waiting 24hrs. Also, your lash extensions should be cleaned every signle day to avoid makeup and oil build up. You can also enjoy your vacation & still have fabuLASHES straight out the ocean or pool!

Should I be careful who applies my Eyelash Extensions?

Absolutely, I cannot stress the importance of choosing an eyelash technician who has been taught by a qualified and experienced person. There are many eyelash extension operators who are claiming to have been professionally trained but have been self taught via the internet and these operators are also using poor quality products bought on ebay. This is disastrous and we are having more and more distressed ladies contacting us for help and advice as they have had a bad experience. Please do your research thoroughly and ask many questions.

How long is the process?

Lash extensions applied correctly is not a fast service. We take our time, apply extensions to each natural lash, and we do it right. Our clients are not rushed out the door. Because we custom design a set of lashes for each client, our full sets varying from 2 hr to 3.5 hrs. Please visit our service list to decide which set you would like. Our Fill-ins vary from 1 - 1.5 hrs.
